Skyward Express Temporarily Suspends Flights to Kakamega

1 minute read

Skyward Express has announced that it has suspended flights to and from Kakamega effective September 30th. The airline says the deteriorating condition of the airstrip is what led it to this decision.

Skyward started direct flights to Kakamega less that 2 years back. This route was meant to cover the greater western region. The notice of route suspension was posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Before this suspension, Skyward operated daily flights to Kakamega from its hub at Wilson airport. The fare for this route was around Ksh 6,000.

The notice read, “This decision is due to the deteriorating condition of the runway at the Kakamega Airstrip, which no longer meets our safety standards. The safety of our passengers and crew is paramount.”

Customers with bookings that have been affected will be contacted by Skyward’s customer service team for alternative arrangements.

The airline currently operates within Kenya but has plans to introduce direct flights to Dar es Salaam, its first destination outside Kenya. These direct flights are set to begin in November.
