Uganda Airlines Leases an Airbus A320-200 from DAT
Uganda Airlines has announced the signing of a short-term lease agreement with DAT, a Lithuanian Airline. DAT is based in Karmelava, Lithuania.
The leased aircraft, Airbus A320-200 is 9.3 years old and acquired on a wet lease. A wet lease is an arrangement where an aircraft is leased along with its crew, maintenance, and insurance, typically provided by the lessor.
The A320-200 will suppliment Uganda Airlines CRJ and A330 fleet. A statement from the Airline read, “This aircraft comes with its pilots and cabin crew and will support Uganda Airlines in maintaining schedule integrity when part of its regional fleet undergoes periodic maintenance.”
The airline also said the lease will help resolve its operational challenges on the Johannesburg and Kinshasa routes where it has been unable to operate efficiently due to capacity limitations. It will also help augment operations on services to Nairobi, Lagos, and Abuja.
“We are delighted to announce this partnership with Lithuanian Airlines, which will support our operations. With the previously leased Aircraft, we have seen significant growth in demand across our network. With the new lease, we shall continue to increase capacity deployment for the number of seats on specific routes to sustain this demand. Leasing this A320 is intended to cushion the operation, especially in the festive season, as travel tends to spike due to leisure and business travel. We also look forward to enhanced cargo freighting for our customers,” explained Uganda Airlines Chief Executive Officer Ms. Jenifer Bamuturaki.
The Aircraft is a 156-seater, two-class cabin configuration of 12 business class and 144 economy seats. It also offers increased capacity for passenger baggage and cargo. We therefore invite the travelling public and the business community to take advantage of the increased capacity.
