2 minutes read

The Airbus A380 is the world’s largest passenger aircraft offering unparalleled luxury and space. If you have never been on one, purpose to try it atleast once if you can. Despite challenges during the pandemic, the A380 is seeing a return, with airlines reintroducing it on key routes, including a handful to Africa.

African Destinations Served by the Airbus A380 in 2025

As of June 2025, only 4 African countries see the Aiurbus A380 on a regular basis.

Johannesburg in South Africa

Johannesburg is one of the largest and most popular cities in Africa. It stands out as Africa’s premier A380 destination as it is served by 3 main carriers including:

  • Emirates – Operates double daily A380 flights from Dubai to Jo’burg. This shows the strong demand and connectivity between the two cities.
  • British Airways – From June 1, 2025, BA started operasting both its daily flights from London Heathrow to Johannesburg using the A380. This is quite a decent capacity increase for this route meant to meet the high demand by both leisure and business travellers.
  • Qantas – Introduced its first-ever A380 service to Africa in September 2024. Qantas flys six times a week between Sydney and Johannesburg.
