Kenya Receives Global Resilience Award for Leadership in Crisis Management in Tourism
Kenya has been honored with the prestigious Global Resilience Award in recognition of exemplary leadership and innovation in crisis management and resilience in the tourism sector.
The award recognizes the country’s resilience-building efforts through the Global Tourism Resilience and Crisis Management Centre – Eastern Africa (GTRCMC-EA), based at Kenyatta University, Nairobi.
Speaking while receiving the award during the Global Resilience Council’s Hall of Fame Awards event at Plaisterers’ Hall in London, Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife, Rebecca Miano, said that the recognition is a testament to Kenya’s commitment to building a resilient and sustainable tourism sector that can withstand and adapt to any crisis or challenge.
“This award is a tremendous honor for our country. It is a recognition of the innovation and dedication of our tourism stakeholders who have worked diligently to make Kenya a world-leader in tourism resilience. We will continue to build on this progress to create a tourism sector that can thrive despite global shocks and stresses,” said CS Miano who is also Chairperson of the GTRCMC-EA’s Board of Governors.
She underscored the critical role of partnerships in building resilience, while commending the Global Resilience Council for their work in promoting best practices. “Partnerships are crucial to developing robust crisis management frameworks that bring together stakeholders from the public and private sectors. We thank the Global Resilience Council for providing this platform to foster collaboration and exchange insights on making tourism more sustainable,” she added.
The award comes as a delegation of the Kenyan tourism stakeholders is attending the ongoing World Travel Market (WTM) in London. The delegation, led by the Ministry of Tourism & Wildlife, is leveraging the global platform to engage with industry leaders, exchanging knowledge and fostering partnerships to further position Kenya as a model for tourism resilience.
At the WTM, the Tourism Ministry will also showcase the country’s diverse tourism offerings and future plans to attract more visitors.
Established in 1995, the Hall of Fame celebrates the outstanding achievements of individuals and organizations in the travel, hospitality, tourism, and leisure sectors.
The Global Resilience Council Hall of Fame Awards highlights four key categories: Resilience Award, Impact Award, Non-Profit & Association Award, and Sustainable Business Award.
