Ritz-Carlton To Open the First Property in Sub-Saharan Africa in Tanzania

Ritz-Carlton is set to open its first property in Sub-Saharan Africa in Tanzania according to The Citizen. The brand has a presence in Morocco and Egypt and this will be the first property south of the Sahara.

Ritz-Carlton is a hotel brand under the marriott hotel group and is considred to be a luxury brand under Marriott group together with the likes of St. Regis hotels, Bulgari brand  and even JW Marriott.

It is not clear who Marriott has partnered with but the property is expected to be set up at Serengeti. JW Marriott already has a property at Maasai Mara reserve which borders Serengeti.

The Ritz-carlton has over 70 hotels and resorts in 30 countries at the moment. It has a total of 29,158 rooms with more planned this year.

Having a Ritz-Carlton property will elevate Tanzania’s status as a luxury tourist destination and put it ahead of Kenya. We still have no information on when this property will be opened but I will keep an eye on that and update when I have the information.
